1. About these terms
These terms cover your use of Maktabati (“the App”), made by Ilmtech Limited, a company registered in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using the App you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the App.
If you get the App from Apple’s App Store, it is also licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If you get it from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply. If those terms and these terms disagree, these terms apply, as far as the law allows.
2. Using the App
We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, for your own learning. You agree not to:
- copy, sell or redistribute the App or its content, including the texts, translations, dictionary, audio and design;
- reverse-engineer the App, except where the law allows it;
- get around, or try to get around, the limits on free use or how Premium is unlocked;
- use the App unlawfully, or in a way that could harm it or other people.
3. Content
The App’s translations, transliterations, dictionary entries, audio, design and software belong to us or are licensed to us. The Arabic texts are reproduced for study. Translations and dictionary entries are a learning aid: we work hard to make them accurate, but we can’t promise they are free of mistakes, and they are not a replacement for a teacher or scholar.
4. Premium subscriptions
Some features (“Premium”) need a subscription, bought through Apple’s App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android.
- Payment. Apple or Google charges your account when you confirm your purchase. Prices are shown in the App before you buy and may vary by country.
- Auto-renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period (for example weekly or yearly) at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trials. Where a free trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Each Apple Account or Google Account can use a trial once.
- Managing and cancelling. On iPhone, manage or cancel in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. On Android, use the Play Store > your profile picture > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds. Apple or Google handles all billing and refunds. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com for the App Store, or through Google Play’s refund help.
- Changes to Premium. We may change what Premium includes, or its price. Price changes follow Apple’s or Google’s rules, and they will let you know when your consent is needed.
Subscriptions are managed with the help of Superwall, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
5. Focus mode
Focus limits apps you choose. On iPhone it uses Apple’s Screen Time, and on Android it uses the Accessibility service, as our Privacy Policy explains. It is a tool to help your own habits, not a parental-control or safety product. Apple and Google control how these features behave, and you can turn Focus off, change your apps or remove its access at any time.
6. Availability and changes
We keep improving the App and may add, change or remove features. We try to keep it working smoothly, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors.
7. Our responsibility to you
The App is provided “as is”. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where that isn’t allowed by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or your legal rights as a consumer. Within those limits, we are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, for business losses, or for loss of data stored on your device. Please keep your phone backed up.
8. Ending these terms
You can stop using the App at any time by deleting it; remember to cancel any subscription in your App Store or Google Play settings as well. We may suspend access if you seriously break these terms.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the App changes. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will let you know in the App. If you keep using the App after a change, the new terms apply.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in another country, you keep the protection of your local consumer law and can bring a claim in your local courts.
